A Warner Bros. statement dated Feb. 9 said that Schlesinger, currently senior VP of the division, will report to Barry Meyer, executive VP of Warner Bros.
Schlesinger has been affiliated with Warner Bros. since 1989, when the company acquired Lorimar Telepictures Corp., where he had been serving as senior VP of international television distribution. Prior to his tenure at Lorimar, he had held the same title at Telepictures, which he joined in 1983 as director of international sales.
The promotion of Schlesinger is likely to mean a relatively untroubled transition for the international division. Solomon will stay on as a consultant until June.
In a joint statement, WB chairman/CEO Robert Daly and prexy/chief operating officer Terry Semel said: “Jeff is an innovative, results-oriented executive with diverse experience and extensive international background. … (We’re) particularly pleased that Jeff has been a close associate of our division’s departing president, Michael Jay Solomon, for 12 years, which we feel will ensure a smooth transition and strong continuity as we look toward the coming months.”
WB exec VP Meyer said, “Previously, Warner Intl.’s TV activities were strictly related to the selling of our film and TV libraries. Now, the exploding array of television delivery systems will enable WBITV to broaden its mandate and take advantage of these growth opportunities. Jeff’s abilities and vision put us in the best position possible to expand the scope and revenue potential of Warner Bros. Intl. TV.”
Schlesinger is attending the Monte Carlo TV market and was unavailable for comment. He has worked at MCA TV Intl. as an international sales exec and at Astral Television, where he was responsible for the distribution in Canada for several film and TV companies.
He begins his new job April 1 and will head Warner’s international TV team at the MIP TV Market in mid-April.
