Paramount Pictures has upped Jay Rakow to senior VP and general counsel, filling the void left by the retirement last month of Richard Zimbert.
Rakow will oversee all corporate legal affairs for the studio’s various entities, including TV, features, music and syndication, as well as international, studio group and real estate matters.
“I intend to carry on the tradi-tion of excellence established by my predecessor, Richard Zimbert,” Rakow said. “We have a terrific legal team here and we will continue to count on that group of people.”
When Rakow joined Par in 1993 as its senior VP and deputy general counsel, it was widely considered he was being groomed by Zimbert for the top legal post.
“(Rakow’s) extensive experience in all aspects of corporate and entertainment practice make him the ideal choice to handle the complex legal matters of a major entertainment company,” said William Bernstein, Par’s executive VP, to whom Rakow will report.
Rakow was a founding partner in the high-profile law firm Christensen, White, Miller, Fink & Jacobs, the offshoot formed when several attorneys departed Wyman , Bautzer, Christensen, Kuchel & Silbert.
