News Corp. wing ups Platt to VP

James Platt, senior editor of Fox Broadcasting newsmagazine “Front Page,” has been appointed VP, special media projects, for New York-based News America New Media.

Platt, who will report to News America Publishing president and CEO Patrick Purcell, replaces Jaan Torv, who was recently appointed senior executive VP of programming and development for News Corp.’s Delphi Internet Services.

Platt will be responsible for developing electronic and computer online versions of News Corp.’s newspapers and magazines. He also will act as News Corp.’s liaison with Tele-Communications Inc. in jointly developing a cable version of TV Guide.

Platt has held numerous positions in nine years at News Corp., including in corporate affairs and investor relations.
