K.K. Chua, one of Southeast Asia’s best-known distribs, is leaving United Intl. Pictures. Chua, UIP’s VP sales for Southeast Asia for 3 1/2 years, confirmed that he handed in his notice last November and is departing in June.

His successor, starting May 1, is Steve Ashmore, formerly the manager of UIP’s Mexico operation.

Mel Swope has been named senior VP of production at MGM/UA Worldwide TV, overseeing all production and reporting to recently installed president John Symes. A producer whose credits include “Fame” and “Miami Vice,” Swope most recently was VP of production at Wilshire Court Prods., a division of Paramount, where Symes had been exec VP, creative affairs.

Merrill Brown, senior VP of corporate and program development for Courtroom Television Network, was named president of the information services division of Kagan World Media.
