Veteran Buena Vista Intl. executive Kevin Hyson was promoted Thursday to exec veepee of theatrical marketing, following his efforts in helping establish Disney’s autonomous international distribution operation.

Hyson, previously senior veepee, will supervise foreign marketing of Walt Disney, Touchstone and Hollywood Pictures releases.

He was a key exec in Disney’s split from its long-term international alliance in the early 1990s, relocating to the Buena VistaIntl.’s regional offices in Paris to help the drive.

The operation now sports four regional and 14 local Buena Vista Intl. offices and more than 30 sub-distributors in Europe, Australia and Latin America. He has since relocated to Burbank.

BV Pictures marketing president Robert B. Levin said Hyson has helped the company stay in front of marketing developments.

“We used to rely predominantly on print and advertising publicity,” Levin said.

In a statement, Buena Vista Intl. president Mark Zoradi credited Hyson for the strong international performances of “Aladdin,””Sister Act,””Beauty and the Beast” and “White Fang.”

Hyson joined Buena Vista Intl. in 1988 from an executive veepee job with Columbia Pictures Intl. He has also served stints at Universal Pictures in London and Cinema Intl. Corp.
