Veteran special effects hand Matt J. Britton will serve as general manager of Jim Henson Prods.’ new Burbank-based Creature Shop, the company announced Monday.
Moving from several temporary offices strewn all over the city, the shop opened on Dec. 14 last year as upcoming Henson properties such as “The Neverending Story III,””Babe” and “The Muppet Treasure Island” increasingly needed one central resource.
Effective immediately, Britton will serve as primary liaison between the Creature Shop, the Hollywood-based Jim Henson Prods. and the London-based Creature Shop arm. Britton will also handle all matters related to finances, marketing, personnel and facilities.
Prior to his appointment, Britton was special effects shop supervisor at Rick Baker’s Cinovation Studios, where he oversaw special make-up and creature effects for pix like Tim Burton’s upcoming Columbia biopic “Ed Wood” starring Johnny Depp, John Hughes’ Fox comedy “Baby’s Day Out” and “Harry and the Hendersons” for Universal.
Britton also worked as robotics specialist for the Landmark Entertainment Group on the “Oita Harmony Land” theme park in Japan, and also held a top F/X slot at All Effects.
