Jackson, Braxton top Soul Train nominees

Janet Jackson and Toni Braxton copped four nominations each Tuesday to lead contenders for the eighth annual Soul Train Music Awards.

Jackson’s “That’s the Way Love Goes” and Braxton’s “Breathe Again” picked up bids for female rhythm and blues single and song of the year, with the singers’ respective discs “janet” and “Toni Braxton” receiving noms for female R&B album of the year.

Special nod to Houston

Tony! Toni! Tone! scored three nominations, trailed by Whitney Houston, who earned a pair of noms and will also receive the Sammy Davis Jr. Award as entertainer of the year.

Babyface and Dr. Dre checked in with two noms each. Barry White will receive the Heritage Award for career achievement.

March fete

The awards ceremony will be March 15 at the Shrine Auditorium and will be syndicated nationally by Tribune Entertainment.
