ABC’s People’s Choice with seven awards

Steven Spielberg picked up another honor for one of his movies Tuesday — this time not for “Schindler’s List” but “Jurassic Park,” which nabbed the People’s Choice Award as favorite motion picture.

The 20th annual awards ceremony also scored a shut out on its longtime broadcast home, CBS, as ABC received awards in seven of the eight television categories, with the only remaining honors going to NBC’s “Frasier” (in a tie with ABC’s “Grace Under Fire”) and its star Kelsey Grammer as favorite new comedy series and male performer in a new series.

“Grace’s” Brett Butler was voted favorite female lead in a new show, and the rest of the TV honors also went to ABC, including a double win for “NYPD Blue” as favorite overall and new dramatic series. “Home Improvement” claimed its third People’s Choice Award among comedy series, while its star, Tim Allen, and “Roseanne’s” Roseanne Arnold picked up their third and fourth awards, respectively, as favorite TV performers.

Two other box office smashes, “Mrs. Doubtfire” and “The Firm,” were chosen as favorite comedy and drama motion picture.
