The Publicists Guild dedicated its 1994 directory to Daily Variety’s Army Archerd in honor of his 40 years writing the Just for Variety column.“Your clients will come and go, but the press is the only constant in your life,” Archerd told a roomful of press agents at Friday’s Publicists Guild Awards luncheon at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. “So be smart; honesty is the best policy. Believe me, your life will be a lot easier, and so will mine,” Archerd added. Archerd was introduced by Oscar nominee Anthony Hopkins (“The Remains of the Day”), who said, “The births, deaths, romances, marriages, feuds and litigations that punctuate Army’s Just for Variety constitute a running intelligence report on the industry.” Publicists Guild awards were presented to Walt Disney Studios president Richard Frank for television showmanship, producers Mace Neufeld and Bob Rehme for motion picture showmanship and Arista Records president Clive Davis, who received the special award of merit. Columnist Liz Smith received the press award.
