‘Visions of Light’ doc marks year run in L.A.

To mark the first anniversary of its continuous run in Los Angeles, the award-winning documentary “Visions of Light: The Art of Cinematography” will be presented at 11 a.m. Sunday at Laemmle’s Monica Theater with two of its filmmakers in attendance.

Writer/co-director Todd McCarthy and co-director/editor Arnold Glassman will discuss the film and answer questions.

McCarthy is chief film critic for Daily Variety.

Winner of numerous awards, including best documentary prizes from the New York Film Critics and National Society of Film Critics, the Kino Intl. release opened at the Nuart Theater in L.A. on Feb. 24, 1993. It then moved to the Monica March 3 and later transferred to Laemmle’s Sunset 5 for a long run before recently moving back to the Monica, where it continues to play on Saturdays and Sundays.

Produced by Stuart Samuels for NHK and the American Film Institute, the feature has grossed nearly $ 1,000,000 in domestic theatrical release. It bowed last week in Australia and opens soon in the U.K.
