NATO/ShoWest ’94 has named “Schindler’s List” scripter Steve Zaillian as screenwriter of the year, and will present the award to him at the Final Night Awards Banquet on March 10 at Bally’s Hotel & Casino.
NATO/ShoWest ’94 said Zaillian has made his mark as a writer by adapting biographical and semi-biographical material.
His previous credits include “The Falcon and the Snowman,””Awakenings” and “Jack the Bear.” The screenwriter made his directorial debut with the Paramount release “Searching for Bobby Fischer.”
Zaillian’s accolade rounds out the list of NATO/ShoWest honorees, which includes Steven Spielberg, Harrison Ford, Michelle Pfeiffer, Arnold Kopleson, Elijah Wood, Tia Carrere, Chris O’Donnell, Kirk Douglas and Robin Williams.
As reported, registration for the 1994 show was closed on Tuesday because the annual convention between distributors and exhibitors is a sellout.
Previous recipients of the screenwriter honor include last year’s winner Richard Friedenberg, William Goldman, Nicholas Kazan, Frank Pierson, Phil Alden Robinson, John Singleton, Sterling Silliphant and Robert Towne.
