Polygram Filmed Entertainment, a unit of the Dutch media giant, has bought Movies Films Prods., the Benelux indie distrib and producer, for an undisclosed sum.
The expected move comes after a year of negotiations between the two companies and follows a deal agreed to last May in which Movies Films distributed Polygram’s slate in Benelux.
Meanwhile, speculation over Polygram acquiring indie producer Island World continues to mount. Polygram already owns Island Records, and it is believed that talks between the two parties have entered a critical phase.
Movies Films willbe renamed Meteor Film Prods. and plans to produce or co-produce one Dutch-language pic and one other feature film annually, both financed by Polygram.
Movies Films founders and co-chairmen Chris Brouwere and Haig Balian will continue to run the company, reporting to Polygram Filmed Enterterainment international president Stewart Till.
The acquisition includes Movies Films theatrical distrib Meteor Film; Meteor/Independent Home Video; Movies Select Video; Movies TV; MFP Prods.; and Movie Tune Publishers/Movies Select Audio.
Recent Movies Films productions include horror flick “The Johnsons” and erotic thrillers “Housecall” and “The Indecent Woman.”
