Miramax Films announced Friday that it has hired Matthew Cohen as veepee of creative advertising, giving him executive authority over all print and audiovisual campaigns for Miramax and Dimension Films.

The appointment is the result of a chain reaction at Miramax that was triggered by the exit of Gerry Rich, who took a top marketing post at MGM/UA last year.

Prior to Rich’s exit, print and audiovisual campaigns were directly supervised by company executive David Dinerstein, who took on added responsibilities when he was named Rich’s replacement as veepee of marketing at the end of 1993.

Before joining the Disney-based specialized film distributor, Cohen was head writer and producer for Kaleidoscope Films, where he was involved in such campaigns as “The Firm,””Indecent Proposal,””Searching for Bobby Fischer” and “Shadowlands.”

Cohen reports to Miramax co-chairmen Bob and Harvey Weinstein.
