Tom Hanks’ next flight of fancy following his recent Oscar win will be to don an antigravity suit to star as astronaut James A. Lovell Jr. in Imagine’s “Lost Moon.”
The film, to be directed by Ron Howard and produced by Brian Grazer, is based on the yet-to-be-published book by Lovell (with Jeffrey Kluger) giving his own account of the near-disastrous Apollo 13 mission in 1970.
Lovell was the commander on that Apollo mission.
Lovell’s account was drafted into a screenplay by William Broyles Jr. and Al Reinhardt. Filming is due to get under way in August.
No other cast has yet been set, sources report, although there were three other astronauts involved in the flight. Imagine execs had no comment.
