‘Germinal’ mines R rating

The Sony Pictures Classics highbrow French import “Germinal” landed an R rating, according to the latest bulletin by the Classification & Rating Administration of the Motion Picture Assn. of America. Five other films were also given R tags; there were three PG-13s, two PGs and two Gs.

“Chasers” (Warner Bros; “for strong language and a scene of sexuality”).

“Germinal” (Sony Pictures Classics; “for intense depiction of suffering and class conflict”).

“Ghoulies IV” (Cinetel Films Inc; “for some violence”).

“Heads” (Republic Pictures; “for a bizarre, comic presentation of violence, and for language and sexuality”).

“Uninhibited” (TCJ Investments; “for sexuality, violence, language and drug use”).

“Virgin Hunters” (Paramount Home Video; “for strong sexuality”).

PG-13

“8 Seconds” (New Line Cinema; “for language”).

“Venus Peter” (Intl. Video Prods. Inc.; “for moments of nudity and for theme”).

“I’ll Do Anything” (Columbia Pictures; “sexual language and situations”).

PG

“Little Buddha” (Miramax Films; “for some disturbing images”).

“My Girl 2” (Columbia Pictures; “for thematic elements and mild language”).

“Heidi” (Buena Vista Home Video).

“The Princess and the Goblin” (Hemdale).
