Felixes wooed by Gothenburg

Will the next Felix Awards presentation take place in Gothenburg, Sweden, in 1995?

It is not as far-fetched as it might sound.

Wim Wenders, president of the European Film Academy, was approached during the Gothenburg Film Festival, currently under way (his “Faraway, So Close!” opened the fest). He looked favorably at the request from the fest organizers and plans to discuss the subject with other academy members during the upcoming Berlin Film Festival.

If the academy decides that Gothenburg would be a good venue, the next Felix Awards ceremony will be moved from the end of 1994 to February 1995. It is hoped that the ceremony will take place at the new Gothenburg opera house, which is to open this year.

The last three Felix Awards ceremonies have taken place in Berlin, but it looks unlikely that the next one would receive the necessary funding to stay there.

The fest organizers also hope to establish more contacts with the European Film Academy this year — for instance, inviting some of its members for lectures and workshops.
