ASC honors Spielberg

Steven Spielberg will be honored at the ASC’s eighth annual awards ceremony at the Beverly Hilton on Feb. 27.

Spielberg will receive the ASC Board of Governors’ Award for his contributions to advancing the art and appreciation of visual storytelling.

“Steven Spielberg is a remarkable visual storyteller who has made an incomparable impact on the artform,” say ASC Outstanding Achievement Awards chairman Burton (Bud) Stone. “But this award is primarily a symbol of appreciation for the encouragement he has given to cinematographers who are committed to innovation and the quest for excellence. Many outstanding cinematographers have worked with him at pivotal points in their careers.”

“The members of ASC wanted Steven Spielberg to receive this token of their affection in 1994 while the organization is celebrating its 75th anniversary,” says Stone. “This is an important milestone because it marks a continuity of commitment to advancing an artform which has made an incredible impact on our global society.
