HBO topper Michael Fuchs and Portugal’s former minister of foreign affairs Joao de Deus Pinheiro have been tapped to address two public luncheons at the upcoming American Film Market.
Fuchs opens the AFM speakers program Feb. 24 with “The Inter-Galactic Superhighway and Its Cosmic Implications.”
Pinheiro, currently the European commissioner for culture and audiovisual policy, will deliver the AFM’s keynote address March 1 on “A Fresh Look at European Audiovisual Policy.”
Industry types are eager to see what Pinheiro has to say following the outspoken statement hemade in Madrid last month that chastised European filmmakers for failing to produce pix that meet public expectations.
“European producers seem to find it difficult to reconcile art and money,” he said. “To subsist in a market economy, film has to incorporate a financial dimension.”
