The Video Software Dealers Assn. has upped Rick Karpel to acting executive VP , filling the void left by Don Rosenberg, whose departure caught many homevideo-industry observers by surprise.
Karpel will occupy the slot until the org’s board names a permanent replacement.
A search committee has been formed for that purpose.
The group is planning its 1994 confab, and Karpel has extensive experience in this arena, having participated in organizing the last three gatherings.
Rosenberg, who went on administrative leave when the org announced it would not renew his contract, was the VSDA point man on several important issues.
He worked with product suppliers to increase pay-per-view windows and was recently instrumental in establishing VSDA’s role in the videogame industry.
Rosenberg also championed the trade group’s move to the West Coast from its longtime New Jersey base.
“Rick’s long association with VSDA will ensure that the association continues to serve its membership and maintain a leadership role in the industry during this transition,” said Dawn Wiener, VSDA president.
