Madonna show hits homevid

“The Girlie Show,” Madonna’s pay TV special that garnered HBO its highest ratings of 1993 for original non-sports programming, will be released on homevideo April 26.

Originally titled “Madonna Live Down Under: The Girlie Show,” the special was taped live at the Sydney Cricket Grounds during an Australian tour stop Nov. 20, 1993.

Program was the only opportunity for many viewers in the U.S. to see the pop diva perform her latest extravaganza. Madonna’s tour stopped in only three U.S. cities last year — New York, Detroit and Philadelphia — before moving on to South America, Mexico and Australia.

On the two-hour vidcassette, Madonna performs “Vogue,””Erotica,””Fever, “”Holiday,””Express Yourself,””Justify my Love,””Like a Virgin” and nine other tunes.

The homevideo, which received an R rating from the Motion Picture Assn. of America, also will sport footage “tweaked” by Madonna exclusively for the homevideo and laserdisc versions.
