‘Flintstones’ set for vid release

Fueled by the interest in the upcoming theatrical release of “The Flintstones ,” Turner Home Entertainment is rolling out four new-to-video releases which the company anticipates will be its biggest selling product this year.

The vid release — the first in two years and ending the moratorium on the release of animated Hanna-Barbera product — will be supported by a multitiered advertising, promotion and rebate campaign buoyed by the presence of teaser spots running with “Jurassic Park.”

“We have everything in place, publishing support, a rebate promotion and free consumer offers to market this classic video series,” said Stuart Snyder, THE veep and general manager. “Most importantly the show has remained phenomenally popular.”

The new digitally remastered vids will feature restored footage from the original 25-minute episodes. In addition to having cassettes tailored to highlight a different aspect of the series, classic episodes not released on homevideo will comprise the set.

THE will back the vid release with what it is calling “its largest advertising buy” utilizing an aggressive combination of print and TV ads to tout the cassette release.

The vids will be released on April 27 and carry a retail price of $ 12.98 before rebate.

“The Flintstones” feature film, starring John Goodman and Rick Moranis, will be released by Universal in May.
