Australian entertainment group Village Roadshow Ltd. boosted after-tax operating profit by 147% to $ A9.06 million ($ 6.34 million) in the half-year to last December.
All divisions contributed
The company reported that all divisions contributed to the profit hike and said earnings per share jumped to 4.82 cents, compared with 2.45 cents in the corresponding period.
No interim dividend was declared.
Village Roadshow said the 107-screen Australian multiplex circuit continued to trade strongly. Roadshow Distributors, jointly owned with the Greater Union Organization, remains Australia’s largest film distrib, releasing all Warner Bros. and Buena Vista product. Recent movies include “Free Willy,””A Perfect World” and “The Fugitive.”
The production division’s “Lightning Jack” debuted Friday in the U.S. The company said the Warner Roadshow Movie World studios and associated theme parks, and the recently acquired Triple M radio network, also contributed to the results.
