’48 Hours’ beef goes to high court

CBS News went to the Supreme Court on Tuesday, asking Justice Harry Blackmun to overturn a South Dakota court’s injunction against tonight’s episode of “48 Hours.”

The court had yet to rule at press time, and CBS said that regardless of the decision it plans to air tonight’s program, “Is Your Food Safe?” In question is a specific piece of video.

The South Dakota Supreme Court had enjoined the network from airing that video, taken in a meat-slaughtering and processing plant in Rapid City, S.D. The company maintains the footage — part of a segment in which employees maintain that contaminated meat is reaching consumers — would divulge trade secrets.
