Huston could join ‘Guard’ force

GOOD MORNING: Anjelica Huston’s been talked to co-star — with Jack Nicholson — in “The Crossing Guard.” It would be no problem for Anjelica (Mrs. Robert Graham). Sean Penn directs and the decision’s up to Penn, sez an affable Nicholson, who is busy these days enjoying Christmas shopping for his two youngsters. He’s also recovering from a cold night’s shooting in Griffith Park (doubling as Central Park) for “Wolf”… There’s still a chance Katharine Hepburn will play Warren Beatty’s aunt in “Love Affair” in the final scene to be filmed here after New Year’s. Kate was seen in N.Y. handing out chocolates to workers who were on strike at a neighborhood restaurant. Meanwhile in Vancouver, her cast and crew of the CBS telepic “This Can’t Be Love” chose to forgo the traditional wrap party, and the bash budget was shifted to a holiday meal for local homeless. Over 2,000 benefited with a pre-Christmas dinner. Tony Quinn, Jason Bateman and Jami Gertz co-star in the telepic directed by Anthony Harvey, produced by John Dayton and Marrill Karpf with Tom Rowe line-producing … The “Elf and the Magic Key” troupe donated all the toys from their giant Santa’s workshop set to pediatric programs at Harbor UCLA Medical Center. The “Magic Key” is the sequel to last year’s “The Elf Who Saved Christmas,” and the shows air back-to-back from 6-7 p.m. Christmas day on USA Network … For the first time in many years, the Douglas freres and pere Kirk will spend Christmas together. Joel, Michael, Peter and Eric join Anne and Kirk in Santa Barbara at Michael and Diandra’s home. How about a script for this group! … Cybill Shepherd, who presented her vocalistics at the Moonlight Tango Cafe last month, will headline the half-time show at the Liberty Bowl in her hometown, Memphis, Dec. 28. She’ll also sing the national anthem at the Sugar Bowl New Year’s Day in the Louisiana Superdome … After New Year’s, Richard Anderson is off to Vietnam to star in the big-screen “An American in Saigon,” an adventure yarn a la his “Six Million Dollar Man.” Sam Bottoms directs. Anderson hopes to start the third, two-hour “Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman” for CBS next March in Florida. Anderson’s “The Glass Shield,” in which he plays an L.A. Sheriff’s station commander, heads to Cannes in ’94.

IT’S THE TV SPECIALS SEASON for Pierre Cossette with the Christmas Eve show on CBS starring Harry Connick Jr. followed by the Jan. 5 CBS Grammy Awards 35th anni and the March 1 Grammys from Radio City Music Hall … Truman Capote’s “A Christmas Memory” will be read by Michael Jeter and Marion Ross Monday at the Coast Playhouse to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Jon Carroll produces. And there’s still time to buy the wonderful all-star “Cabaret Noel: A Broadway Cares Christmas” double album benefiting Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS … Longtime KCET friend and supporter Mario Machado co-hosts the three-hour, 34th annual L.A. County Holiday Celebration broadcast from the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. The KCET special airs live Friday from 7-10 p.m. … There was much talk of plans for ’94 at Kay Kimberly and Joseph Siegel’s holiday parties on Monday and Tuesday. Freddie Fields said he and Jerome Hellman will have several scripts ready. And Rowland Perkins noted appreciation of the many offers since announcing his consultant status at CAA … Sherilyn Fenn and Toulouse Holliday welcomed son Myles Maximillian H. Dec. 15 at their home … Bradley Bell of “The Bold and the Beautiful” and wife Colleen welcomed Bradley Chasen B. at St. John’s Dec. 5 … Hot-selling item at Graceland: A vintage photo of Elvis sitting on the lap of a Santa Claus’d Colonel Parker. Meanwhile, Presley’s “Elvis: From Nashville to Memphis, the Essential ’60s Masters Vol. 1” (RCA) is the 111th certified gold album for Presley … Lalo Schifrin heads to London Christmas to produce the sequel of his “Jazz Meets Symphony” album (Atlantic) with the London Philharmonic. Minisuites will be devoted to Miles Davis and Louis Armstrong … Andy Williams’ final night on the road Thursday has him on with David Letterman, then racing to the Westbury Music Fair on Long Island. This winds 72 shows in six weeks for Andy.

FRIARS’ TRIBUTE (not a roast!) to Barbara Walters May 7 at the Waldorf already boasts a dais of Sharon Stone, Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Cole, Nicole Kidman, Mike Nichols, Diane Sawyer, Sam Donaldson and Peter Jennings. Candice Bergen is femcee and David Tebet chalks up his 18th year producing the tribute … Phyllis Diller returns to “Blossom” playing Mrs. Peterson, a medical technician, in the seg titled ‘Sex, Lies and Mrs. Peterson.” On her Aussie jaunt , Diller also guested twice — on “Mrs. Piggle Wiggle,” the Jean Stapleton-Shelley Duvall series filming Down Under.
