Malcolm Vaughan, formerly VP of Twentieth TV Intl.’s European division, has been appointed managing director of a new TV distribution company set up by U.K. producer Sunset+Vine.
Sunset+Vine Distribution Ltd. will have an informal partnership with new L.A.-based sales boutique Small World, run by another former Fox exec Graham King.
Small World will bring Hollywood product, chiefly movies, to Sunset+Vine for international distribution, and will manage U.S. sales for the British company. King is in advanced negotiation with two U.S. theatrical distribs to handle worldwide TV sales of their libraries, totaling about 200 titles.
He is also pre-selling a $ 3.5 million feature film, “Press Enter,” which will start production in April. “We are very active in acquisition, looking for feature films and TV movies,” he said.
Sunset+Vine current specializes in producing sports programming, primarily the Gillette World Sports Special. But it is now anxious to expand into entertainment programming.
“The whole essence of my appointment is to build up the library,” says Vaughan. “My role in starting this new division is to get out there and pick up as much independent product as I can, wherever I can find it.”
“We have board approval to provide guarantees, to create a real profile and a presence worldwide,” he adds.
