Jonathan Taplin, prexy of Trans Pacific Films, was named new exec producer of TBS SuperStation’s recently expanded docu series “Native Americans: Behind the Legends, Beyond the Myths,” replacing NBC exec Don Ohlmeyer.During the next 14 months, CNN will present special news reports, TNT will air a series of original dramas and Turner publishing starts it all off with its November release of “Indian Country: An Illustrated History.” The first segment to air will be TNT’s December preem of the drama “The Broken Chain,” starring Wes Studi and Eric Schweig. Native Americans are involved in the production of several segments. Carol Cornsilk, a Cherokee, will work as field producer on the first program helmed by Peter Bate. Phil Lucas (Choctaw) will direct the second evening, which deals with the Southwestern peoples, and George Burdeau (Blackfeet) helms the final segment focusing on the Great Plains tribes. Patricia Foulkrod, a Native American helmer , will produce. Native Americans also provide key narration, and writing on all segments.
