Columbia’s “Ricki Lake” show, airing in a poor latenight slot on NBC affiliate KYW-TV in Philadelphia, will jump to daytime on Capital Cities/ABC-owned WPVI in fall 1994.
The deal in the nation’s fourth-largest market represents a significant upgrade for “Ricki” and helps fill a void left by the departure of Multimedia Entertainment’s “Sally Jessy Raphael” and “Donahue” from WPVI.
Market sources indicated that Tribune indie WPHL also made a bid for the talker, which has performed the best of the three new syndicated chatshows premiering in the fall.
The talkshow has seen its national household rating jump more than 50% since its premiere.
Additionally, it has shown demographic growth on affils and independent stations.
Col’s syndie arm is launching a renewal campaign for the series, which is produced by the Garth Ancier Co. in association with the studio.
