NBC firms up Fall debut sked

NBC will offer early premieres of two of its new fall series — Tuesday sitcoms “The John Larroquette Show” and “The Second Half”– and will debut its Thursday sitcom lineup Sept. 16.

“Larroquette” will preview Thursday, Sept. 2, behind “Cheers,” and will take its regular place on Sept. 7, teamed in the 9-10 p.m. hour on Tuesdays with Castle Rock’s comedy “The Second Half.”

Teen-oriented “Saved by the Bell: The College Years” starts with a one-hour intro at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 14, with former ABC series “Getting By” filling in the lineup Sept. 21, as does “Dateline NBC.”

As previously announced, NBC will introduce its biggest new series gambit, the Steven Spielberg sci-fi series “seaQuest DSV,” coming out of a designed NFL football overrun with a two-hour, 8-10 p.m. maiden voyage Sept. 12. “I Witness Video” will air at 10 p.m. that night and take its place leading off Sunday (and into the Amblin/Universal action series) the following week.

“Mad About You,””Wings” and “Seinfeld” will have their season premieres Sept. 16 along with the launch of the “Cheers” spinoff “Frasier.””L.A. Law,” as usual, will be delayed until October but arrives a bit earlier than usual, joining the sked Oct. 7.

The Friday lineup will also arrive late, with “Against the Grain” tackling the 8 p.m. hour starting Oct. 1 (the Warner Bros. drama previews in the “Law” slot Sept. 30) and the two-hour “NBC Friday Night Mystery” trying to solve the web’s Friday woes starting Oct. 22.

NBC’s Saturday lineup of “The Mommies,””Cafe Americain,””Empty Nest,””Nurses” and “Sisters” will be in place Sept. 25, with a preview of the lead-off shows from 9-10 p.m. the prior week.

Newsmagazine “Now With Tom Brokaw & Katie Couric” premieres Aug. 18 and will be bookended by fresh episodes of “Unsolved Mysteries” and “Law & Order” starting Sept. 22.

“The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” will start its season with a one-hour show Sept. 20, joined by “Blossom” (which launches with a two-hour Friday movie Sept. 24) the following Monday.

The official 1992-93 TV season is expected to begin Sept. 20, and CBS has set its premieres for Sept. 13-27; Fox will rollout its fall lineup in August.
