NBC, CBS neck and neck with Emmy nods

An Olympic year paid off handsomely in terms of sports Emmy Award nominations to the networks that carried the coverage, according to Emmy citations revealed yesterday.

NBC and CBS tied for the most nods with 22 to lead the pack in balloting. NBC was blessed with the Summer Olympics and CBS the Winter Games.

ABC followed with 16, sports cabler ESPN got 14, Home Box Office picked up 12 nominations, syndicated fare and NFL Films were named on six occasions and MTV, TNT and USA each got one.

The awards, presented by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, will be given out on April 13 during a black-tie ceremony at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York.
