The organizers of the Mip-TV and Mipcom international TV trade fairs in Cannes, the Reed MIDEM Organisation, will launch the Mip-TV Asia Screenings and Conferences, to be held in Hong Kong Nov. 30-Dec. 2, l994.
The event will consist of a three-day buying and selling bazaar and a simultaneous conference exploring issues specific to programming in Southeast Asia.
Alongside this event, Reed Exhibitions is planning to sponsor the first “Cable & Satellite Asia,” which will feature exhibits of new products and technologies. It will be modeled on Reed’s European Cable & Satellite exhibition in London, held every year since 1990.
The Reed Midem organizers undertook an in-depth study among television professionals in the Pacific Rim region and determined that the needs of that fast-growing industry deserved a more specifically targeted approach.
“As happened in Europe in the ’80s, Southeast Asia’s television industry is today experiencing profound change. The challenges faced by professionals in this part of the world — which holds two-thirds of the world population — have created a need for such an event highlighting the increasing importance of this area,” a MIDEM statement said.
