Martinez back to KABC news

After spending the past year as exec producer and manager of special projects for KCBS-TV news, Becky Martinez will return to KABC-TV on Monday as assistant news director.

Martinez, who comes out of a news-gathering and production background, will join KTTV assistant news director Meg Guevara as the two highest-ranking Hispanic female news exex in the market.

The move reunites Martinez with her longtime colleague Roger Bell, KABC news director. Martinez left the ABC O&O last July after 10 years to join then-KCBS news director John Lippman, with whom she worked from 1977-81 at KIRO-TV in Seattle (Daily Variety, July 13, 1992).

During the late 1980s, Martinez went to work with Bell, a former assistant N.D. at KABC who left to run the news operation of an affiliate in Denver. He brought her back to KABC when he returned to the station a year later as N.D.

In the new post, Martinez will be filling a spot that has been vacant for a year since former assistant N.D. Jim Hattendorf took over Martinez’s role as exec producer.
