‘Les Brown Show’ terminated by King World

King World on Friday pulled the plug on the ailing “Les Brown Show.”

The final episode of the frosh talker, which has been on “hiatus” the past few weeks, will air Jan. 14.

But KW is reportedly making a bid to hold onto the “Les” time periods with a new chatshow hosted by Rolonda Watts.

A spokeswoman for the syndicator declined to comment, but a station source said KW had told broadcasters that it would put “Les” back on the air if theychose not to air the “Watts” talker in his timeslot.

The source called it an “empty threat” because stations would have downgraded “Les” if the show came back, a move that would have lessened the value of the program’s barter spots by half.

It remains to be seen just how many stations may be willing toair the Watts show before its scheduled fall 1994 start date.

In a statement, KW noted that after examining the November sweeps book, it determined the “results are not as positive as we had hoped. Therefore, regretfully, we have decided to terminate … production.”
