HBO has offered its cable operators an opportunity to provide an open signal to subscribers and satellite dish owners as a way of increasing viewership for “An American Reunion: New Beginnings Renewed Hope,” a special honoring the presidential inauguration of Bill Clinton.Michael Bolton, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin and Whoopi Goldberg are among the performers slated for the event, which will be executive produced by Quincy Jones. HBO will telecast the event Jan. 17 from 8-10 p.m. (ET), with Westwood One simulcasting. On the same day, a lineup that includes Taj Mahal, Linda Ronstadt, Booker T and the MG’s, Little Feat and Al Green will perform in “America’s Reunion on the Mall,” a concert coinciding with the arrival of the Clinton and vice president Al Gore families in Washington, D.C. from a bus tour that begins in Charlottesville, Va.
