Harmony Gold has acquired continental European distribution rights to the CBS series “Walker, Texas Ranger,” excluding such territories as the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth of Independent States, Turkey and Greece.

Harmony, which earlier this year allocated $ 35 million for deficit financing , rights participation and territorial pre-buys, reportedly ponied up a little over half of that fund for rights to “Walker,” expected to be a hot property overseas because of its action component and feature star Chuck Norris.

The series was initially produced by Cannon Pictures, but the company subsequently had to parcel out rights after running out of money in the midst of production last spring.

The hour series is now produced by CBS Entertainment Prods. in association with Columbia Pictures TV, which came in as a partner handling domestic distribution in exchange for the services of Frank Lupo, who is now exec producing the series.

“Walker” is scheduled to premiere Sept. 25, airing Saturdays at 10 p.m. The series averaged a 13.9 rating, 24 share in three airings last spring.

Harmony Gold said it also seeks Euro distribution rights to other action/adventure and drama series and longform programming.
