Family Channel makes U.K. hire

The Family Channel took one step closer to the launch of its British service Tuesday, announcing the appointment of Nigel Pickard as director of programs.

Pickard was formerly controller of entertainment and drama features at Scottish Television Enterprises, an ITV production company.

The U.K. version of the Family Channel, which debuts Sept. 1 as part of the new basic tier on the Astra satellite, is owned by Pat Robertson’s International Family Entertainment (61%) and British media group Flextech (39%).

The British launch is being headed by Pat Robertson’s son Tim, chief executive of IFE.
