Disney Studios has teamed with Lin Broadcasting to underwrite a new educational program aimed at kids.

The show, “Disney Presents Bill Nye the Science Guy,” will be produced and distributed by Disney.

The first year of 26 shows for the syndication market was announced at NAB by Bob Jacquemin, president of Disney’s Buena Vista Television. It fits the bill under Congress’ recent call to increase educational children’s programming, he said.

“The intent of the FCC and Congress was to bring to mass TV commercial education, but it’s entertainment that brings in the audience. We have both with this program,” said Jacquemin.

In a precedent-setting deal, Providence, R.I.’s Lin Broadcasting is a joint partner in the series. Lin, which owns seven stations, had been looking for a children’s program to produce with Disney for nearly a year. The show was originally developed and will be produced in Seattle with Nye at PBS’ KCTS station. Jim McKenna and Erin Gottlieb are the executive producers with Rabbit Ears Prods. as creative consultants.
