DirecTv Inc. has entered into distribution agreements with the Discovery Channel, the Learning Channel, C-SPAN, C-SPAN 2 and E! Entertainment Television.
The company said the additions to the programming lineup for its high-power direct broadcast satellite service bring to 16 the number of basic cable networks that it will distribute.
DirecTv is an all-digital satellite television service, and a unit of General Motors Corp.’s GM Hughes Electronics division.
DirecTv said all of the cable programming services signed to date will be marketed in rural areas under an agreement between DirecTv and the National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative. DirecTv added that it will offer the cable networks in value packages in other locations across the U.S., along with its pay-per-view movies, sports, cultural, entertainment and information programming.
