Buena Vista Television’s new weekly country music series for fall, “Countdown at the Neon Armadillo,” will begin production today at the Disney-MGM Studios in Orlando and then move to Nashville’s 328 Club at the end of August. The series premieres Sept. 17.
Don Weiner, who produced the two-hour network spec that sparked the syndie series, has been tapped as exec producer of the firstrun program. Kent Weed, son of Academy of Country Music prez Gene Weed, will serve as the show’s director.
The Disney syndie subsid is producing 46 hourlong episodes of the program, with 10 of those themed-specials. BVTV is selling the show on an all-barter basis, with the syndicator and stations each retaining seven minutes of advertising time.
