Brazil TV spoof blocked

BRASILIA, Brazil — A judge here has blocked the broadcast of a TV soap lampooning former President Fernando Collor de Mello, who exited last December amid charges of corruption.

The injunction was handed down this week, hours before the first episode was to air on the Manchete network. The web has promised to appeal.

“O Maraja” (The Maharaja) depicts Collor, his family and his inner circle. Collor resigned halfway through his five-year term.

To guard against lawsuits, the series does not use real names.
