Steven Bochco and William Finkelstein will return to “L.A. Law” as exec producers on the series, NBC announced yesterday, replacing John Tinker and John Masius after less than a season on the NBC drama.

Finkelstein was a supervising producer on “Law” before leaving two years ago to co-create and co-exec produce ABC’s “Cop Rock” and subsequently “Civil Wars”– both in conjunction with Bochco, whose company has a distribution arrangement with Twentieth.

Bochco remains a consultant on “L.A. Law,” which he co-created.

Production is winding down on “Civil,” which has received a total 18-episode order; “Law” will continue production into April.

“L.A. Law” has seen its ratings gradually decline while undergoing several behind-the-scenes shifts and cast defections over the past two years, including last year’s midseason exit of then-exec producer Patricia Green.
