Ad input sought on violence

Corporate advertisers will be given the chance to air their views on TV violence warnings at a House telecommunications subcommittee hearing Thursday.

The meeting, chaired by Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.), is apparently Congress’ last crack at the controversial TV violence issue before an industrywide summit convenes on the issue Aug. 2 in Los Angeles.

Representatives of four large corporations will be testifying at the hearing, according to a Markey staffer.

AT&T is the only company that has confirmed it will be sending a witness.

The hearing featuring corporate representatives is being fueled in part because of the view by some lawmakers that large advertisers must be held more accountable for buying ad time during programs that are excessively violent. that carry a “V” rating.
