Smith joins FGB as head of film arm

Robert Smith, known throughout the industry as Smitty, has joined Frankfurt Gips Balkind’s Los Angeles office as a partner and will head its film division.

According to FGB partner Peter Bemis, who started the L.A. office six years ago, the addition of Smitty will help the company integrate “an audiovisual capability that will reflect the agency’s historic roots in landmark movie campaigns.”

Smith was formerly exec VP of marketing at 20th Century Fox, a post he held until he was fired by the company last March after he and the studio’s marketing prez Andrea Jaffe reportedly butted heads over creative issues.

While at Fox, Smitty was responsible for all the studio’s creative advertising, audiovisual and print, including campaigns for “White Men Can’t Jump,””Alien3,””My Cousin Vinny,””Grand Canyon,””Hot Shots!” and “The Commitments.”
