Michael Havas, retired studio executive, died March 6 in New York City from complications of asthma.

He was 89.

Havas, born in Hungary, was a pioneer in international distribution of films working with Fox in the Balkans and MGM in Austria. He primarily worked overseas for RKO, Warner Bros. and MGM in various managerial and executive capacities.

In later years he served MGM as managing director for the United Kingdom until his retirement in 1977. He spent the rest of his life in New York City.

Havas is survived by his wife, Anna.
