David Manchester, a bassoonist with the Metropolitan Opera orchestra in New York City for nearly 30 years, and father of singer Melissa Manchester, died Jan. 2 in Los Angeles after a long battle with liver cancer.
His age was unknown.
After his stint with the Metropolitan Opera, Manchester moved to Los Angeles in 1978, where he played at the Hollywood Bowl.
He was a member of the 1984 Olympics orchestra and worked on several film and television scores.
He is also survived by his wife, Ruth; daughter Claudia Cagan, a talent exec with “The Arsenio Hall Show,” and four grandchildren.
Donations may be made in his memory to Cedars-Sinai Cancer Research Fund in Los Angeles.
