Ameche memorial

A memorial mass for actor Don Ameche, who died Monday from prostate cancer, will be held at 11 a.m. Dec. 17 at Loyola Marymount University, 7101 W. 80th St. in Westchester.

On Dec. 13, a mass is scheduled at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Erskine R. Hawkins

Band leader Erskine R. Hawkins, author of the 1940s hit “Tuxedo Junction,” died Nov. 11 in Willingboro, N.J. He was 79.

He was known as one of the top jazz performers in the 1930s and ’40s. “Tuxedo Junction” was popularized by the Glenn Miller Orchestra. He also wrote “Norfolk Ferry” and “Dolemite.”
