ABC News has undergone its second significant change since Paul Friedman was named exec VP of the division. This time, veteran research maven Alan Wurtzel has been named to the newly created position of senior VP of magazine and longform programming.
As VP of magazines and longforms, Wurtzel will take on responsibilities for ” 20/20″”Primetime Live” the upcoming “Day One” and “Moment of Crisis,” which is scheduled for October.
In a related move, Richard Wald, now a senior VP, will assume the role of senior VP of editorial quality. Wald will be responsible for journalistic integrity and editorial standards at ABC News. He has been a senior veepee with the web since he joined in 1978.
Wurtzel is currently senior VP, marketing and research services, for the ABC Television Network Group. As such he has been responsible for the planning, development and analysis of all audience, program, social market and technical research for the web. Wurtzel will remain in that position until a successor is named.
Wurtzel has been in his current position since 1988. He began his broadcast career at the NBC Radio Network in 1969 and joined ABC’s research department in 1978.
In addition to maintaining journalistic standards at the web, Wald will continue to represent ABC News in relationships with news entities worldwide.
