Univision appoints Barba to prexy-COO position

Univision TV Group yesterday named vet TV exec Carlos Barba as prexy-chief operating officer of its U.S. Spanish-language group.

He joins UTG from Venevision Intl., where he was prexy-CEO.

Before that, he served as senior VP of Telemundo.

Univision chairman-CEO A. Jerrold Perenchio and his partners Televisa and Venevision acquired the station group and the Univision network from Hallmark Cards in December for $ 550 million.

Univision operates the largest Spanish-language TV station group in the U.S. with full-power stations in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Dallas, San Francisco, Phoenix, San Antonio, Fresno and Albuquerque, N.M.

UTG will be affiliated with the Univision network, the No. 1 Hispanic web that serves more than 6 million Spanish-language households in the U.S. The network, headed by the previously announced chairman-CEO Jaime Davila, holds 19 full-power affils and more than 600 cable outlets.
