Sony Music Publishing has combined its domestic and international operations into one entity, tapping music publishing vets Kathleen Carey and David Steel to guide the division.
Carey and Steel will assume VP of A&R titles and will be charged with raising Sony’s profile in the publishing industry.
The pair will jointly seek and sign new talent as well as plug works in the SonyMusic catalog.
Carey joins Sony from Reata Music, a joint venture with Warner/Chappell Music. She also spent 10 years topping Unicity, an MCA Records publishing arm. Steel was senior VP/general manager of Virgin Music America.
Songwriters signed to Sony include Babyface, Walter Afansieff (Michael Bolton , Mariah Carey), Keith Thomas (Amy Grant) and Bruce Roberts (Barbra Streisand).
Steel will be based in New York, Carey in Santa Monica. Both will report to Sony Music Publishing prexy Richard Rowe.
