Hill titled Fox Sports prexy

Hill will report to Fox Broadcasting chairman Lucie Salhany, who announced his appointment — without specifying a title — when the weblet confirmed its acquisition of National Football League broadcast rights (Daily Variety, Dec. 20 ).

Hill has been at Sky Sports — like Fox, a division of News Corp. — since 1991, and previously helped launch Sky TV, Britain’s first satellite TV station, and pan-European sports channel Eurosport. Before moving to the U.K. in 1988, Hill had been VP, sports, at Australia’s Nine Network since 1977.

Fox faces the formidable task of building a sports operation — hiring both behind-the-scenes and on-air talent — to staff its NFL telecasts, which will begin next year.
