WMA to rep firm on Joplin projects

Looks like the William Morris Agency is poised to take more than a “Piece of My Heart.”

The agency has announced representation of Texas Lion Prods. for all stage and feature productions based on late blues legend Janis Joplin.

Texas Lion Prods. holds the exclusive rights from 12 music publishers for all 45 songs with which the Texas-born artist was associated. TLP also holds synchronization rights to all of Joplin’s perfs from CBS/Sony records.

A collection of Joplin’s letters edited by her sister, Laura, and published earlier this year by Villard Press as the book “Love, Janis” will serve as the catalyst for several upcoming screen and stage productions, TLP reps said.

A likely first version with the same title will be a musical stage show based on Joplin.
